A supportive guide for new patients curious about acupuncture

For anyone considering acupuncture for the first time, it’s natural to feel a mix of curiosity and uncertainty. At our practice, we believe that informed, relaxed patients have the best healing experiences. This guide was created to help you feel confident and comfortable before your first visit.

Acupuncture Treats More Than Just Pain

While many people first try acupuncture for pain relief, it is known to support a much wider range of conditions. The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as effective for issues such as stress, anxiety, digestive imbalances, sleep concerns, hormonal health, immune support, and more. Whether someone is seeking help with chronic symptoms, reproductive health, or general wellness, acupuncture offers a natural and effective solution.

Our patients are often surprised to discover how much better they feel overall, even when they originally came in for just one issue.

Eat a Light Snack Before Your Visit

We always recommend eating a small snack before coming in. While acupuncture is gentle and relaxing, it still encourages your body to use energy for healing. Having a light bite beforehand helps prevent any feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness and supports the effectiveness of your treatment.

Wear Loose and Comfortable Clothing

We may need access to areas on the legs, arms, abdomen, or back. Wearing loose-fitting clothes allows us to gently roll up sleeves or pant legs and keeps you as comfortable as possible during the session. We always make sure that you are properly draped, warm, and at ease throughout your treatment.

What Happens During the First Visit

Your first appointment includes a detailed health consultation. We’ll ask about your health history, current concerns, and wellness goals. In our practice, we follow a Japanese style of acupuncture that uses palpation. This means we gently press on specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen or back, to help guide diagnosis and treatment in real time. This hands-on approach gives us valuable insight into how your body is functioning and how best to support it.

About the Needles

One of the most common concerns for new patients is the fear of needles. We completely understand, and we are here to reassure you. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, about the width of two human hairs, and most patients feel little to no discomfort. In fact, many people find the experience so calming that they fall asleep during treatment.

All needles are sterile, single-use, and made from high-grade surgical stainless steel. Patient safety is always our top priority.

More Than Just Needles

Acupuncture is just one part of the healing process. In our practice, we often integrate other traditional therapies such as cupping, gua sha, red light therapy and Chinese herbal medicine. These techniques are selected based on each individual’s needs and may be part of your treatment plan to enhance results and promote balance.

A Relaxing and Supportive Space

From the beginning, our goal has been to create an environment where patients feel welcome, safe, and cared for. Our office space is calm, soothing, and designed to support relaxation from the moment you walk through the door.
